About the Event

The aim of this training is to provide STEM Ambassadors with the knowledge and skills to effectively talk about maths and numeracy skills in their jobs.

Many young people have a lack of confidence when it comes to maths and numeracy skills and knowledge especially understanding the real-world application, STEM Ambassadors play a vital role in helping to change this.

The session will be a mixture of presentations and activities and will cover:

  • An introduction to maths and numeracy in the Scottish curriculum (primary and secondary) including and insight into what topics are covered when.
  • An introduction to how maths and numeracy are taught in schools.
  • Tips for pulling out the maths and numeracy on your job and how to talk about it in an age-appropriate and engaging way.
  • Why it's important we talk positively about maths.

We want all our STEM Ambassadors to be able to confidently showcase the maths and numeracy in their jobs and following on from this session we have lots of opportunities for STEM Ambassadors to put into practice what they have learnt.

The training will talk specifically about the Scottish curriculum so is only suitable for STEM Ambassadors who will be primarily volunteering in-person or online with Scottish schools.
