Tell us about your career journey so far


I went to University of Dundee to study Mathematical Biology, in my 3rd year I decided to change course to Mathematics. Once I finished my degree I got a job as a Data Engineer, where I got training on the job. We work with real-time reporting data from built-in battery transmissions with AI self learning and reporting.


What was your favourite subject in school and why?


I really enjoyed Science, especially when we did a practical - much more interesting than just an average lesson.


What subjects/qualifications are useful in your role?


My degree in Mathematics is useful for my role, however there are college courses and other degrees that would allow you to do the job too.


What is your favourite thing about your job?


I really enjoy working through problems, it’s very satisfying when it all works out.


What is a normal day in your role like?


Most days, especially now because of Covid, I will have a couple of check-in meetings with my line-managers. Then for most of the day I will be working on various project and collaborating with my other colleagues.


Suggest an activity that could be done at home that illustrates an aspect of your work?


Using Python is a big part of my job, there are lots of fun games that can be played and learn python while you do it https://codecombat.com/
