About the Event

Join the Marine Conservation Society for a face to face training evening for ambassadors and educators .

Session 1: 6pm – 7pm

Explore seaweed with the Marine Conservation Society and learn how to take part in our citizen science project in partnership with the Natural History Museum – The Big Seaweed Search.

Find out more about the unexplored world of seaweed, offering a look at the impact of climate change on our coastline, including the effects of rising sea temperatures and the arrival of invasive species. You will learn how to take part in our simple citizen science survey, to record vital data on key seaweed species

This session will involve a short presentation on marine life and survey methodology– followed by a short quiz and a chance to conduct the survey.

Session 2: 7.15pm – 8.15pm

Learn how to run educational and practical outdoor sessions linked to our Beachwatch marine litter survey and coastal clean-up programme, plus the Source to Sea Litter Quest, our project for gathering data on litter inland.

We’ll look at issues such as plastic production, pollution and sewage related debris.

All equipment will be provided and we will try out both surveys in groups, using survey data sheets and gathering vital evidence to push for change on litter legislation in Scotland.
