SSERC organised for secondary teachers in Scotland to participate in an immersive and hands-on experience in industry, which aimed to increase knowledge of STEM career pathways and highlight the practical applications of the curriculum. Funded by CITB’s (Construction Industry Training Board) Go Construct STEM Ambassador programme, this was part of the SSERC product Scottish STEM Placement Programme (SSPP): Teacher Education.

Local teachers visited the sites, in Aberdeen and Motherwell/Glasgow, in June 2025 and spent the reminder of the year embedding their learning in their setting. We saw an increase in knowledge of construction careers & pathways and how to link construction to the curriculum across the cohort, and we received fantastic comments, such as:

"The experience made me feel much more confident in talking to pupils in construction related careers that don't just involve a trade.”

The Go Construct STEM Ambassadors who hosted and supported this programme really enjoyed participating and enjoyed working with the teacher:

“Working directly with teachers from local schools multiplies the impact. One teacher placement can influence hundreds of pupils, creating meaningful, long-term social value within surrounding communities”.
