SSERC are excited to announce the Eco-Orbit Challenge, an upcoming space outreach project funded by ESERO-UK through STEM Learning. Designed and delivered in partnership with Aero Space Kinross, the Eco-Orbit Challenge is a transition project which connects primary school learners with their local secondary school and takes them on a journey to design, build, and test their own model satellites with a focus on sustainability and climate. The project will take place over the course of the 2026 Autumn term.

Before the programme begins, there will be a training day for teachers and STEM Ambassadors to learn about the resources and how to run the project with their class/group. After a Mission Briefing and mobile planetarium day at the secondary school, learners will be able to begin the process of designing a model satellite with a Space Inspirations STEM Ambassador mentor for each school. Mentors will meet with their teams throughout the design, building, and testing phases, which will culminate in a showcase at the secondary school with their completed satellite models. Participating learners will be eligible for a Young STEM Leader Level 2 auto-award and Climate Detectives Kids Gold Badge & Certificate.

Once schools are confirmed, we will begin recruiting STEM Ambassadors to get involved - watch this space!
